Greatest little boy
In the 1990s country music singer Kenny Rogers released a song called “The Greatest”. This song was about little boy who goes out with a ball and bat with the intention of hitting the ball as far as he possibly can.
Before he tosses the ball up in air, he assures himself of his ability by saying, “I am the greatest player of them all.”
His first attempt ended with him swinging and missing. But undeterred, before his second toss he reaffirms his self belief by saying, "I am the greatest there has ever been.”
After his second attempt resulted with him missing the ball, he attempted for a third time only to come up the same result. That’s it, he has missed all three tosses and now struck out. He has no more chances and his desire and attempt to hit the ball has failed.
However, he then realizes something in the midst of his failure. He realizes maybe he didn’t fail after all as he says to himself, "I am the greatest, that is a fact, but even I didn't know I could pitch like that!"
What about you? Have you or are you currently attempting something with the same desire as this little boy? Have you swung and missed a couple times? Do you feel as if you are running out of chances to accomplish your goal? Do you feel like you have struck out?
Maybe you haven’t. Maybe you have simply not realized that your personal gifts and talents have been designed for another purpose.
Your journey in life will be full of ups and downs, but by embracing every moment, believing in yourself, and maintaining a positive attitude, you can become the greatest version of yourself. Don’t give up. You will never hit anything in life if you don’t take a swing (chance). Never forget what you do matters, because you matter.
